Um ... surprise?

He proposed on the 14th, with a picture he drew of our house that we built together in Minecraft (aww) and poetry, starting on the wide picture frame (engraved by him), with each line's first letter spelling out my entire name. The other half of the poetry was written in the drawing, and the first letters of each line spelled out 'visne mihi nubere', which means 'Will you marry me?' in Latin. HE LOOKED UP LATIN, OKAY.

I said yes. :D

(Him and his dad made me a custom, handmade ring box, in the shape of the heart, with the bottom swiveling open. It is very cool. I will take pictures. And of the ring. Yes.)

Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Firefox IS COMPLETE F****** CRAP. Restoring my RESTORE SESSION, how helpful when you CRASH OVER AND OVER. I hope those idiots go under, they obviously lost the ability to make anything useful and screw up what they did have. UGH. And now Chrome records everything you download, how nice. I'll try Opera, it's not like there's anything else left.

I'm so disgusted. I tried to apply an update for Firefox. I haven't been able to get working since, so I can't even get anything from it (though apparently Opera took some things from it automatically, which is good).

Also, it does not help my mood to be mildly ill. And I've uninstalled Firefox. That was satisfying.

UGH. I just got a message from my bank saying they rejected an online purchase attempt (for one dollar, to google). The person I spoke to said that it's very common to have that kind of attempt made on random numbers, just going through a list trying to find an active card. Which, okay. That happens. But a week ago, one of my credit cards, being replaced for expiring and going through the mail, also got stolen and got fraudulent charges. So that's two stolen cards in a week! It sounds possible it's just coincidence, being different methods, but now I'm all paranoid. I checked my other credit card for activity and there isn't any, thankfully.

It makes me remember a book I read a few months ago, set in a future society in which your number (like a social security number) was so entwined with your identity and ability to live that someone stealing it would be sentenced to death. It was a random thing (not connected to the plot), but it stuck in my mind. The way we use social security numbers today is nothing compared to how it was used fifty years ago, or when it was first established. It was never meant establish that you are who you say you are, but started gaining that use with the uptick in identity theft. It's funny how the information world has changed everything.

Oh, Star Trek! Your tacky special effects, your random purple/pink lighting, those ridiculous short skirts the women wore, the dog dressed in an orange unicorn/lizard outfit, Kirk getting his shirt ripped off for no apparent reason, the episode where everyone gets roofied and a character tortures the entire crew by singing over the comm., evil!Kirk being defined by eyeliner, the fact that all the blondes have the exact same color of blond hair, your rainbow-colored backgrounds, your cracky plots and overacting –

And I'm only on episode thirteen. (But already, how I love you so!)

I was intending on starting round nine of [info]likethegun_lims during that time period, so I need to know. (I'm behind on the show, too, though I've been reading reviews. *guilty*)
