I normally don't have another icon post so soon after the last, but I was inspired, mostly by John Sheppard. ;)

I just dreamed that there was going to be a new Law and Order: the Paranormal, featuring two detectives, one a sorceress who is engaged to a normal guy, and one totally normal guy. The guy who played Gaius Baltar was the guest star as a wizard – though at first it only appeared he was a witness – who witnesses a crime/is involved in some slight way and they want him to testify. The dream then evolved into this chase story, where the sorceress and her fiancé try to keep him safe incognito, but this evil enemy keeps possessing girls and threatening him. At the same time, the enemy is trying to get into this magical orb Not-Gaius left in his home – he left all his magical ties behind, trying to cut everything out so nothing magical could track him – but they can't do it and are angry. Not-Gaius is linked to the object and they can't remove anything from it while he's still around, and the sorceress is pissed he didn't tell them all this sooner, but Not-Gaius is even more pissed and says that his precautions should have worked, and it wasn't like the detectives were doing such a great job protecting him. The sorceress goes back to try to figure out who's after not-Gaius, after admitting to her fiancé that she just found out she's pregnant, to her fiancé's delight. When she leaves, the fiancé, who is clearly out of his depth but one of the only trustworthy people around, ends up trying to save not-Gaius's life when the enemy starts attacking them in the middle of a dinner on a cruise ship.

Then I woke up.

I've finally had it with Microsoft Word 2007. The last straw? It won't let me save files AS HTML. How much more basic can you get? I switched back to Word 2000, and what do you know, saving html is easy as pie.

I'm getting Vista when hell freezes over.

First off: *hides from [info]shadowserenity*

Okay, so I went and joined [info]gateland. The basic idea is that you join up on teams and you do activities together. I've never done a community like this before, but it sounds interesting, and it's SGA and competitive, so I can't help myself. :p

The sign up post is here, and the game includes all of Stargate (SGA and SG1). :)

o.O
... I lost the job. Or rather, I got laid off/they retracted the hire. Apparently they lost schools (who would do their program) so they didn't need to so many teachers. Naturally I got the boot - I have no experience, after all. They said they'd put me on the substitution teacher rolls, though. But yep.

I'm not upset, because I'm not surprised. They were VERY disorganized in dealing with me and the head of the business (it's a for-profit business, using federal grants) came by totally unannounced during our 'training session' and pulled almost everyone into a meeting. That doesn't happen when things are going well, particularly in a business with multiple locations (this office being several hours away from the main one). My sister-in-law hasn't gotten a call, and she's very experienced so we think she kept her job, which is good (they're living off of my brother's part-time job, currently with the parks and recs, and in the fall he'll be doing substitute teaching).

The good side of it is that I won't have to worry about going to school full-time with a job. The bad news is I won't be getting any money. :p

Ah, life and times. :p

... I got a job. My first! A part-time after school teaching program. Which is good, if slightly stunning (they hired me even though I have no experience with kids) and terrifying (I have no experience with kids). The bad: I still have to be taking a full load of classes (going nowhere, of course, since I have my BA already) in order to stay on my mother's insurance - while I work part-time. A full-time job with benefits would be ideal, of course, but it hasn't happened. Paid experience teaching should help with that, though, as my lack of experience I think has been a major issue in getting hired. Though now I wonder if I'll remember any Latin in a year's time. *sigh*

I also need to get off my ass and start asking teachers for graduate school advice and recommendation letters - I don't really want to go to graduate school, but I think it'd be a good idea to have it as an option next fall, see what happens.

I posted the the sign up post for round four of [info]likethegun_lims. I hope I've got everything set up correctly, and that the caps are okay, and the round goes well, and people actually sign up. <-- like, really. I feel all nervous even though this is my fourth time doing it. I suck.

I also changed the layout, because I was really tired of looking at the old one, which was all b/w. I think it's pretty and (somewhat) colorful now.

Wish me luck! And go sign up, if that's your thing. ;)

I've been debating with myself about what to do about [info]likethegun_lims. I enjoy running a lims and I indicated that I would be running another round there, but I haven't actually been watching Supernatural (though I've kept up with what's going on, so I would use caps up to the season finale). So should I do another round? I kind of said I would ...

Likewise, because I haven't been watching Supernatural, I haven't made any SPN icons. So I'm wondering if I should do a request post or just not worry about it (that is, I know people watch my journal for spn icons). I may or may not get back into Supernatural next season ... we'll see. I just haven't been able to stand the storyline and quit watching in January.

I've also been getting back into my first fandom - Star Wars. So I've been thinking about doing a Star Wars lims, one that's all inclusive - images from the PT, OT, EU and whatever else I can find, so each challenge there's something for everyone. There's one or two lims running and several icon challenges, but none that are about the entire universe of Star Wars. It's a little daunting to me since I've been out of SW for so long, but I'm leaning more and more towards doing it, and just see what happens (and if anyone actually participates ...).

And last but not least, I'm promoting [info]xf_lims. Go join! It's going to be run in the style of [info]likethegun_lims and [info]lantis_lims, with multiple caps each challenge and caps provided ahead. It's going to be awesome!

Well, that's it. I've taken my last final. College is over. All that remains is a graduation thing (an honors thing) and getting my grades.

It feels very strange. O.o

I have this friend who sends me those chain emails where you're supposed to send them to whatever number of people and something will happen (a wish come true, bad luck if you don't do it, etc). I refuse to send them to others on general principle, though I don't mind getting them. What do you think?

So yesterday afternoon there was this report that went out that there was this guy walking from Mesa Court (dorm housing) in camouflage carrying a rifle. I was in the Classics department building at the time and they actually locked all the doors and had us get out of the front seating area, which is visible to the outside, and also suggested we not leave the building. I'm oblivious to dorm housing as I never go there so I didn't know at the time that Mesa Court is, like, RIGHT NEXT to the Classics building, which sure explains why people were so freaked. My TA was apparently also there in the seminar room for a class and she said today in section that she was traumatized and very freaked out by it, which is funny because I was, er, very underwhelmed. I figured if he was going to start shooting he would have already, and seriously, what moron would walk around in camouflage carrying a rifle and expect not to get noticed?? So I placidly took my test (on the Aenied from spring 2008, finally done with that class!) and left afterwards. There were a fair number of people still walking around, so I didn't worry about it.

But it turns out that they did seriously lock down a lot of buildings and classrooms, more than I'd realized (some classes were in fact cancelled), and there were all kinds of text alerts (which I am not signed up for) and emails going about, although by the time I left the Classics building I think everything had been reopened. I also heard on the way home (and today in section from my TA) about the poor guy who happened to be in the cafeteria wearing camouflage pants. He got physically tackled by the police after a lot of "GET THE F*** DOWN!" and such like, even though he was just sitting there eating lunch. Some people on the bus when I was on my way home that day were apparently there or were friends with the guy (and a guy in section has a roommate who is friends with the guy, apparently), because they were talking to each other about it and being like, "Dude, where'd our civil rights go?" (I paraphrase.) And after all that I don't think they actually ever found the moron.

There's also now officially two reported cases of swine flu on campus.

Fun stuff.

Went to the beach this morning (early morning - left around 5:30?). It's been overcast during the first half of the day for the past week, and it was today too, but it was still really pretty with the gray sky and green sea, and there was hardly anyone there, so all I heard was the ocean. Managed to spend an hour and a half doing nothing, just walking along the beach and going on the swings, which I love because they're right there on the beach facing the ocean. It was a really nice and soothing way to spend the morning. I should do it more often.
