recs, please?
Hello, everyone!

I'm going to my parents'/sister's place this weekend, and I'm running out of Pretty Little Liars, my current guilty pleasure. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some tv series to me. I will watch quite a bit, but if its a soap-opera-ish, then it needs to have another component (like A in Pretty Little Liars).

Please please rec me some tv shows? :)

Do you like sci-fi? I recommend Falling Skies (three seasons) and Defiance (one season but renewed).

I also very much enjoy Major Crimes, which is the spin-off that came after The Closer ended its run (awesome, kick-ass female leads in both). I also really, really loved SouthLAnd.

If you like period dramas, I really enjoyed both Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife.

And, for fun and quirky with a bit of pathos - Slings and Arrows. Hope any of these appeal to you! :)

I love scifi! I watched the first season of Falling Skies and loved it, I will have to go back - thank you for reminding me about the series. :D I watched the pilot of Defiance and couldn't get into it for some reason. :/

I've started watching Major Crimes (have seen the first season), and I've watched all of Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife (both entirely excellent).

Slings and Arrows looks really interesting, I will be watching it! :D

Yay! Give Defiance a chance - it's really very cool. I *do* love sci-fi a lot, so i'm a little biased/will watch nearly anything, but I thought the different aliens and the backstory that unfolded made for interesting viewing.

I love Slings & Arrows! I've watched it over and over. I do admit the very first episode is a little harder to get into the all the others, but do persist, you'll be glad you did!

I'll have to give it a second try. :)

Thanks for warning me - I really do like the premise, it sounds quite interesting.

I found it amazingly funny and also touching - some definite 'moments' when i need to get a tissue.

Enjoy! And have a good trip. :)

Oh yeah. They writers themselves have NO idea who A is, and it shows in how they kind of scramble around the topic. But it's done in a way that somehow I find it interesting, and I do keep watching.

I will check out Inspector Lewis - I love BBC shows. :)

I have watched the first two seasons of Luther - I need to catch up, definitely. :D

Have you seen White Collar? I love the dynamic between the two main characters.

Revolution (NBC) has enough sci-fi to keep me interested. I'm pretty sure the episodes are online.

I have not seen White Collar in a long time. I lost track of it because I found the overall plot kind of silly, but I should probably give it another go. :)

I have not seen Revolution, and I had to look it up to find out what its about. I will give it a try!

Walking Dead is my new fav. Dealing with the practicalities of day-to-day survival after the zombie apocalypse. It has some very advanced characterization and non traditional OTPs.

True Blood. I didn't watch it for the longest time because of the sex, but if you can get past it, its worth it for the tongue in cheek melodrama. The vampires are actually vampires, too, not boy toy love sick teenagers.

Once Upon a Time. Predictable network TV. But still interesting enough to keep you watching.

I think Walking Dead is a bit gross for me. I've heard it's good, I just don't like gore. I tried True Blood when it came out and wasn't impressed - does it get better?

I used to watch Once Upon a Time and then lost interest, though I have to admit I am curious how they're keeping the premise going for so long. ;)

For the zombie genre, Walking Dead isn't very gory. They focus on the characters so much that the show's antagonists are usually people, either outside of the group or within it, and the zombies wind up being more of a plot obstacle. Its more of a post apocalyptic drama than horror, I think. It has actually been criticized by hardcore zombie fans.

I forced myself to watch True Blood because my mom loved it so much, and I have to say that the first 2 seasons aren't much to write home about. But somewhere between the 3rd and the 4th season I became hooked. Will I go on to write the next True Blood epic fanfic? No, but it kept me entertained.

One thing I really like about Once Upon a Time is its ability to change. You won't see any static characters or relationships there.

Hm, I'll think about it. My dad watched the first episode and I saw glimpses. Horrifying glimpses. ;)

I think maybe True Blood could be my "Doing something else at the same time" show. Yeah, that might work.

I'll catch up on Once Upon a Time, thanks for the recs/explanations. :)
